About Sahaja Yoga

Inside all of us, there is a divine motherly energy called Kundalini which lies dormant in the sacrum bone at the base of the spine in three-and-a-half coils. The awakening of Kundalini & the inner journey of self discovery is known as Enlightenment or Self-Realization wherein we can become aware of the Self – who we really are.

Before Sahaja Yoga, self-realisation was an achievement after a long process of purification by seekers of truth. It was rarely achieved and necessitated a whole lifetime of meditation, renunciation and asceticism, and that implied retiring from society entirely in order to consecrate oneself to the search of truth.

On 5 th May 1970, Shri Mataji discovered a spontaneous method to awaken this energy, which requires no previous knowledge or spiritual practice. This spontaneous awakening can then be passed on to others, without the necessity of paying money, acquiring a diploma, or becoming a disciple. "Like a candle that is lit can light another candle."

‘Saha’ means ‘with’ and ‘ja’ means ‘born’. ‘Sahaja’ means ‘born with’. ‘Yoga’ means Union. Sahaja Yoga is –

  • 1. The right to Unite with God is born with you.
  • 2. The spontaneous union of one’s true self with the All-pervading power
  • 3. The spontaneous union of individual consciousness with the collective consciousness

In Sahaja Yoga, one can actually feel this all-pervading divine power as a cool breeze, as described in all religions and spiritual traditions of the world. This state further leads to thoughtlessness and helps in our physical, emotional and mental well-being.

Sahaja Yoga is meant for anyone who desires to find his or her true self, which is full of peace, joy of life and love for others. This experience cannot be forced on anyone, instead it is left to the freedom of each individual to decide for themselves if they want it or not.

Sahaja Yoga is not any knowledge or a set of exercises but a living science\experience that opens itself up gradually to the practitioner as the meditation becomes deeper, stronger and fulfilling. Sahaja Yoga is practiced in over 140 countries entirely free of charge, as one cannot pay for the experience of Divine Love.
